After beating Florida for the first time since 2004, Tennessee fans burned couches because that’s what you’re supposed to do after snapping a losing streak.
At one point on Saturday, the Tennessee Volunteers trailed the Florida Gators by three touchdowns, and appeared to be on their way to a 12th straight loss to the Gators.
Then, the Vols exploded in the second half behind Joshua Dobbs’ and 35 second-half points to defeat the Gators for the first time since 2004, 38-28.
To sum up how dominant the Gators have been against the Vols before Saturday, Tennessee had beaten Florida just four times since 1993.
Saturday’s win was a big deal, right?
According to Tennessee fans, yes … it was, and it also meant they needed new couches for games after ending the losing streak.
Confused? Same here.
Vols fans turned to burning their couches after the Vols beat the Gators on Saturday. Why? There’s no real answer to it, but there’s plenty of bonfires to attend in Knoxville now.

Nobody will ever truly understand the art of burning a couch after a team’s victory. It’s become a common trend in collegiate sporting events. Chalking it up to fans just having fun makes the most sense, but it’s still weird.
It’s not as weird as Tennessee’s performance in the game itself, but it’s pretty weird. Mind you, Tennessee had three points at the break and looked as defeated as a football team could look.
That second half will live in Rocky Top lore for quite a while. It’s not only a huge streak-busting victory. It’s a win that could go a long way in Tennessee winning the SEC East and competing in Atlanta for the SEC title in December.
There’s a lot of football left and a lot of couches to burn.
