Saturday night’s Texas A&M vs Arkansas game taught us a few things about both teams.

Texas A&M and Arkansas have both begun the season in similar fashions. Texas A&M has started 3-0 with a win over UCLA, a Top 25 squad, and Arkansas beat No. 15 TCU on the road in Week 2 to jump to No. 17. Texas A&M has taken the leap all the way to No. 10 and the Aggies are off to yet another hot start.

This was the game that would decide which of the dark-horse candidates would no longer be under the radar and jump into the SEC title race.

Early on, it was Trevor Knight who was impressing. While the Razorbacks and Austin Allen opened the game with the first touchdown three minutes in, Knight took over. The Oklahoma transfer rushed for two long touchdowns in the first half, ensuring the game would be tied at 17 heading into halftime.

College football was wild on Saturday with top teams getting upset with programs like Notre Dame and UCLA losing yet again — hard to believe Notre Dame began the season ranked No. 10. The Texas A&M and Arkansas game looked to be on the same track.

Texas A&M pulled away in the fourth quarter, taking a 38-17 lead. The Aggies held on to win the game and proved to be a strong SEC contender.

1. Trevor Knight is exciting, but wildly inconsistent

It was even obvious during his days with the Oklahoma Sooners that accuracy was an issue and it even caused him to lose his starting job. Heck, if it wasn’t for his poor accuracy, he might still be in Oklahoma and the Aggies would be scrambling to name a starting QB. Knight is as exciting a quarterback as they come, effective with his arm and legs, but his inaccuracy may doom him. Knight can make big throws, like his 92-yard pass to Josh Reynolds, but can’t remain consistent.

2. Trayveon Williams could be a breakout star

Trayveon Williams wasn’t exactly the highest-rated recruit on Texas A&M’s board for the 2016 class, but the 5-foot-9, 200-pound back has been impressive through four games. He doesn’t get a ton of carries, but he makes each one count. Watch out for his name in the coming weeks as he might be talked about as a top running back in the SEC. He finished the game with 12 carries for 153 yards and two touchdowns and now averages 9.7 yards per carry on the ground through four games.

3. Texas A&M is the real deal

After starting the season unranked, Texas A&M has proven to be one of the best teams in the SEC and likely a top-10 team in the country after this week. The Aggies fought for this win and came out on top thanks to gutsy play by Trevor Knight and Co. and moved to 4-0 on the year and 2-0 in SEC play. While Alabama is the big kid on the block, the Aggies aren’t that far behind.

Highlights

Arkansas gets a nice cakewalk game in Week 5 against Alcorn State at home and Texas A&M will travel to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks in another SEC bout.
