Over the course of his campaign, Donald Trump has given the media no shortage of headlines to write about. Every time he opens his mouth, he seems to cause a stir, but the Presidential Debates pose his greatest chance to really take down his opponent Hillary Clinton. The polls have indicated a lead for Hillary so far, but the only polls that matter are the ones after the debates, which is why Trump is looking to leave a real mark.

Trump has created a unique brand in giving Clinton the nickname of “Crooked Hillary.” It’s been so effective that when people read some of his tweets about Hillary, they will insert “crooked” in there even when he doesn’t say it.

But for as lively as his campaign rallies have been, the debates are held at a neutral location. He can’t incite the crowd to say “Lock her up” or “Build a wall,” and a big part of moderator Lester Holt’s job is keeping him in check so that he doesn’t go off the rails. But you can’t hold Trump down for long, and despite everyone’s best efforts, he still let loose some incredible lines. Here are some of the best ones from Monday night.

Trump lies about global warning

It didn’t take long for Trump to tell his first lie of the night. Donald Trump started by talking about how Mexico and China were taking all the jobs, and when it was Hillary’s turn to talk, she recalled a certain tweet from Trump. As a way of exposing how clueless her opponent is, she brought up the fact that he once said global warning was a “hoax by the Chinese.”

Trump denied he ever said that. But Twitter — including Hillary Clinton’s own account — was quick to uncover that falsity.

Hillary was fact-checking Donald all throughout the debate while debating him. She was essentially working twice as hard as Trump while they were competing over the same position.

That was hardly the only time he lied during the debate, but given how the proof was right out in the open for everyone to see likely means this will be the most scrutinized thing he said well after the debate is over.
