1. USC has arguably the hardest schedule in college football

The Trojans did one of the bravest things you can do in college football when they agreed to play Alabama for their 2016 season opener. This was obviously not going to work in the favor since the Crimson Tide were entering this year with national championship swagger, and they have not let their feet off the brakes yet. The Trojans’ schedule did not and will not get any easier. They already had to deal with a Stanford team who is ranked No. 7 and still led by Heisman Trophy favorite Christian McCaffrey.

Utah proved to be a formidable competitor too, and their No. 24 ranking is sure to improve with their 4-0 record. No. 9 Washington will be difficult to overcome too, and rivalry games against UCLA and Notre Dame are never easy either. This will undoubtedly continue to be a character-building season for the Trojans.

This will provide a silver lining though since this will give the Trojans more opportunities to learn their flaws and correct them. Firing Helton as their head coach will only set the program back further. It may seem like the right decision at this time. A rough start should not be a reason for USC to quit on a coach who clearly won over the players and fans last season and can certainly do so again though.
