Shovel Knight revealed in new Yooka-Laylee trailer

Although Yooka-Laylee is a spiritual successor to Rare’s Banjo-Kazooie, a familiar indie video game character will be in it, that being Shovel Knight.

There’s no doubt that Yooka-Laylee is a long time coming. For so many years, the video game industry has somewhat strayed away from these 3D platformers that most ’90s kids grew up playing. To name a few, there was Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, and Donkey Kong 64.  All these games are still critically acclaimed till this day and we’ve been longing for another game like them ever since.

When Microsoft acquired video game developer Rare, they never made games like these the same again and it’s very unfortunate. Luckily, a group of developers and creators who used to be employed by Rare back in the day decided to get back together and bring back 3D platformers under the name Playtonic Games.

They began a Kickstarter for a game called Yooka-Laylee early in 2015 to see if it would gain enough funds and in just 21 hours, it reached over one million dollars, completely surpassing their expectations. It was definitely a surprise for them, but it isn’t very surprising that it gained so much support since so many gamers loved those 90s games.

Since then, we’ve seen a bunch of gameplay, there have been numerous playable demos, and so on. In the newest trailer for the game, we also got a brand new look at a new character that will appear in the game. For those of you who played 2014’s indie game of the year, Shovel Knight, he will be making an appearance in Yooka-Laylee. Although he won’t be playable, it’s still pretty neat.

The new trailer mostly highlights some of the characters that we’ll see in the game, but Shovel Knight is definitely the highlight.

Yooka-Layle looks spectacular so far. With bright and colorful visuals, smooth gameplay, a wide variety of characters to meet, and a beautiful world to explore, we just can’t wait to play this game sometime in 2017.
