4. Skyler Mornhinweg

Part of the reason that many were skeptical about Luke Del Rio getting the starting job in 2016 was that it provoked feelings of former Florida quarterback nepotism. Del Rio isn’t the first son of an NFL head coach to quarterback the Gators since 2010. Skyler Mornhinweg led the Gators for three games in the lost 2013 campaign.

Mornhinweg is the son of former Detroit Lions head coach Marty Mornhinweg. The elder Mornhinweg went 5-27 in two seasons coaching the 2001-02 Lions. His son played the final three games of the worst season in Florida history in 2013.

Mornhinweg completed a high percentage of his passes (69.8%), but his dink and dunk approach to quarterbacking didn’t cut it in the SEC. His yards per attempt of 5.5 had him transfer to Columbia University after the 2013 campaign.

Of the nine quarterbacks to start for the Gators since Tebow, Mornhinweg is easily the most overlooked. While he was an accurate passer, he was the most forgettable of the nine post-Tebow in Gainesville.
