12. San Diego Chargers

Michigan. Jabril Peppers . 12. player. 13. The San Diego Chargers continue to find ways to lose close games. Both times it was because their defense couldn’t hold a lead at the end. That speaks to problems against the pass. Sure a pass rush is important but since Joey Bosa should join the fray soon, it stands to reason they should think about the back end next. Specifically the safety position. Is it fair to ask whether or not they’re missing Eric Weddle at this point? Given his success in Baltimore, that’s not a hard sell.
Thing is San Diego remains the same team they’ve been the past few years. Just good enough to hang in games with most teams but not good enough to win most of them. Injuries are playing a part in that. Nowhere is that clearer than on offense. Keenan Allen is done for the year. King Dunlap is out. Philip Rivers can’t do it on his own, no matter how much the Chargers wish it. If they can’t find players who can stay healthy for him on offense, then building a dominant defense is the other option.

There may be no more exciting defensive talent in the scouting community than Jabril Peppers. Much of it centers around his rare caliber of athleticism. He can play almost any position on the field from safety to linebacker to wide receiver. His progress as a safety though has made it clear he has a bright future there. Instincts and intelligence have begun to catch up with his top tier physical skill. If groomed right he may end up being even better than Weddle.
. S
