In Week 2 of the Champions League, Atletico Madrid beat Bayern Munich and Arsenal dominated Basel.
The headline match of Week 2 of the Champions League saw last season’s beaten finalists, Atletico Madrid, face off against German champions Bayern Munich. Bayern were looking to get revenge after being knocked out in the semifinal of last season’s competition by Atletico, but the Spanish side were able to come away with a 1-0 win.
They probably should have won by more as Antoine Griezmann missed a penalty and Fernando Torres missed another easy chance in the first half. This was a very impressive performance from Atletico, and it puts them in position to potentially win one of the toughest groups in the tournament.
Elsewhere, Arsenal won comfortably against Basel thanks to two first half Theo Walcott goals. That keeps them level on points with PSG, who came back from a goal down to beat Bulgarian side Ludogorets. Manchester City, meanwhile, played out a ridiculous 3-3 draw against Celtic at Celtic Park.

On Tuesday, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund. The German team looked very impressive in their return to the Champions League after competing in the Europa League last season.
Young American Christian Pulisic even played a decisive role, as he provided the assist (via a couple of deflections) for Andre Schurrle to equalize late on. Madrid were not perhaps at their very best, and they seemed to miss Casemiro in holding midfield, but the threat they pose on the break is undeniable.
