College Football Picks Against The Spread Early October 1

It was another bad week for me. I know, I sound like a broken record this year. College football is a fickle beast sometimes. It’s going to be really hard to get myself out of this hole. With the season already nearly a third over, maybe 50% is a more realistic goal. Then again, the games with FCS opponents are pretty much over, so I will have 60 games per week to get back on track!

More from College Football Odds

Sunday through Friday, I am the perfect husband.  No really, I am.  You can ask the boss a.k.a. my wife.  I help with all of the household chores, walk the dogs, cook meals, all that good stuff that women love.  Come Saturday, my wife hates me.  This is MY day.  I become one with the couch.  Just another piece of immovable furniture. Why am I interested in so many games?  Other than the fact that I love college football, here is why:  I was possessed by Jimmy The Greek and Lee Corso at the same time!

In case you don’t know what I do here, I pick every college football game of the season. Against the spread. Trust me, it’s not as easy as it sounds! I take the average of the odds from all of the Vegas casinos. I then round to the nearest half. There will be no ties here. Ties are for the other football (soccer).

This contains the picks for FBS vs. FBS game only. It is too hard to get an accurate spread on teams that involve 1-AA teams.

I will assign a point value “bet” on each game, between one and five points. That way you can see just how confident I am in each pick. Look for those at the end of each line.

This is for entertainment purposes only! I cannot be responsible for you losing any of your worldly possessions (or limbs) because of my picks. These are a guideline that you can use to help you with your picks. I am a simple man. I can’t have that on my conscience.

There are 59 games this week, which is the largest week of the season so far. 15 more kick off between noon and 3pm eastern. Let’s get to those picks!

Notre Dame(-11.5) at Syracuse(4): The Irish were torched deep several times by Duke last week. Now they have to travel to a very loud dome to face Amba Etta-Tawo, who had 270 yards receiving against UConn last week. This line is way too high. I wouldn’t be surprised if Syracuse won outright.

(13)Baylor(-16.5) at Iowa State(2):  The Cyclones are usually pretty solid at home. Baylor could also be without K.D. Cannon. If they are, it could hinder their explosiveness. Then again, the Cyclones got whitewashed by an Iowa team that only mustered 14 points against Rutgers. If they get behind early and have to throw, this gets ugly. I’ll take Baylor.

(23)Florida(-9.5) at Vanderbilt(3): The only question here is how snakebit Florida is after blowing a big lead against Tennessee. They are likely without Luke Del Rio again, but Austin Appleby was solid. Florida should be able to cover this by defense and running the ball. Give me the Gators.

(22)Texas at Oklahoma State(-2.5)(3): I took Texas straight up in pick em because of Oklahoma State’s lackluster running game. That holds true here. Give me Texas.

Rutgers at (2)Ohio State(-38.5)(1): Well, so much for last week settling this line down. Ohio State is more than capable of covering this. Can Rutgers play solid defense again? I have my doubts. Give me Ohio State.

Northwestern at Iowa(-13.5)(3): I am baffled by this line, especially since it opened Northwestern (-1). This is a tough road game for the Wildcats, but their run defense is solid. I’m taking Northwestern. They may not win outright, but I doubt they lose by double digits.

Central Florida at East Carolina(-3.5)(2): This looks low. UCF is much improved, but ECU is not a pushover. That Virginia Tech team that just creamed them is a good team. ECU by a least a touchdown, which is where this line opened.

SMU at Temple(-12.5)(2): I haven’t really been impressed by either team. SMU is more of a mess without Matt Davis, so I will take Temple.

(14)Miami(FL)(-7.5) at Georgia Tech(3): This line is up four points already, and may rise more. Clemson methodically beat down the Bees. Don’t be surprised if Miami does the same. Give me the ‘Canes.

Georgia State at Appalachian State(-18.5)(2): This line is falling a bit with the speculation that Marcus Cox may be out. I tend to think he plays. I’ll take the Mountaineers.

Virginia at Duke(-3.5)(3): Which was more unexpected; Virginia beating Central Michigan at home or Duke beating Notre Dame in South Bend? I agree. Give me Duke.

Buffalo at Boston College(-18.5)(1): I’m still not a big believer in the BC offense. This seems high. I will take Buffalo.

Oregon State at Colorado(-18.5)(2): That’s quite a few points, but Colorado is by far the better team. It’s enough to make me a little apprehensive, hence the low wager, but I still like Colorado.

Ohio(-3.5) at Miami(OH)(3): Another week, another rivalry game for the Redhawks. I think they put forth another spirited effort, but they come up about six points short. Give me Ohio.

Eastern Michigan at Bowling Green(-3.5)(4): This line is backwards. Bowling Green has given up 77 points not once but twice in the first four games of the season. Their defense is M.I.A., and the Eagles are in the midst of their best season in 21 years. It continues. Eagles straight up!
