Loser: Texas Longhorns (No. 22 to unranked)

Seeing how poorly the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have played through five weeks has made Texas’ win in Week 1 look less and less impressive. The Fighting Irish are just 2-3 and their playoff hopes have been crushed while the Texas Longhorns went from No. 11 in the country to unranked in just a few weeks.

Texas lost originally to a potent California team who now looks like a serious dark-horse in the Pac-12 after beating Utah and then against Saturday against Oklahoma State on the road.

The Cowboys had also been suffering through a tough season, losing to Central Michigan a few weeks ago at home and then against last week to Baylor. Neither team was living up to expectations heading into the game and the Cowboys effectively put an end to Charlie Strong’s team’s playoff hopes.

Dropping 14-plus spots in the rankings in just a few weeks after having all the momentum in the world makes Texas the real loser here and many believe Strong should be back on the hot seat.

Shane Buechele and D’Onta Foreman may be the future of this program, but the Longhorns are struggling this season.
