Manchester United face Stoke at Old Trafford on Sunday, Oct.2. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
At least for the moment, Manchester United find themselves in the curiously unfamiliar position of underdogs. Currently sitting sixth in the Premier League table, Jose Mourinho’s squad is coming off a comprehensive trouncing of Leicester which saw Paul Pogba’s first Premier League goal. Prior to that win, United had lost two straight, one apiece to rivals Manchester City and, somewhat improbably, to Watford. Pogba should be able to control the midfield again here, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford will provide scoring punch. A 1-0 win over Ukrainian side Zorya in the Europa League this week should provide some spark. The curious case of Wayne Rooney remains unresolved, but United forges ahead regardless.
As for Stoke, this tie poses a particularly difficult challenge. Through six games, the Potters have managed to score only three goals, and none came from assists. A late equalizer from West Brom last week eliminated what would have been Stoke’s first victory on the season, and it does not seem likely to come here either. In fact, Stoke have not beaten United at Old Trafford since 1976. One bright spot should lie in Xherdan Shaqiri’s return, but he can only do so much.
