The Arizona Diamondbacks have fired manager Chip Hale and general manager Dave Stewart.

Changes are coming in the desert. After a season full of expectations, the Arizona Diamondbacks were an unmitigated disaster during the 2016 season. Whether it was bad personnel moves, injuries or stories coming out that didn’t paint organizational members in the best of lights, this season was not what was expected. On Monday, the Diamondbacks didn’t waste any moves in regards to manager Chip Hale.

The team has announced that they are firing general manager Dave Stewart and Hale as the manager of the club. The team finished with a 69-93 record and were one of the biggest disappointments in the league.

The Diamondbacks captured everyone’s attention before the season when they signed Zack Greinke to a massive deal. Greinke had a down year for the Diamondbacks, as he dealt with injuries and the pressures of living up to his new contract.

That wasn’t the move that sunk the team however. Arizona traded away top prospect Dansby Swanson for a deal involving starter Shelby Miller. Miller would have a terrible season and it’s looking like one of the worst deals in team history. That might be what cost Stewart his job.

Regardless, changes are coming for the team. Whether or not that puts current players on notice to be shipped out remains to be seen.
