3. Buffalo Bills
The Browns are still the most cursed franchise in the NFL. But at least they can say they’ve won a championship. That’s not the case in Buffalo, who might be the only team ever to make four championship games in a row and lose all of them. They also have the longest active playoff drought, with their last appearance in 1999. And we all know how that went.
You can’t say they haven’t tried to end that drought. But the closer they get, the more heartbreak they provide their fans. In 2008, they started the season 5-1, then bottomed out by finishing 2-8 and placing last in the AFC East. This was the same year that Tom Brady got hurt in the opener and the division was wide open.
2014 was the closest they came to ending the playoff drought. At 7-5, they had to get past the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, and New England Patriots to make it. But they beat the Packers and all they needed to do was beat a 2-12 Raiders team. They ended up losing and missing out on the playoffs after finishing with a 9-7 record. How did they respond in the offseason? By firing Doug Marrone and replacing him with Rex Ryan. One step forward, ten steps backwards.
Being a Bills fan is a vicious cycle, and while it’s not as bad as being a Browns fan, having no hope is arguably better than having false hope.
