World Series 2016: Odds for each team

Oddsmakers heavily favor the Chicago Cubs to win the World Series, but where does every team stand prior to the 2016 MLB Playoffs?

The most exciting time of the year for every baseball fan is set to begin with the start of the 2016 MLB Playoffs on Tuesday evening in Toronto.

After six months of regular season play, both the AL and NL Wild Card races came down to game 162. The field is now whittled down to 10 contenders, with the 103-win Chicago Cubs leading the way as World Series favorites.

Every team has a shot in the MLB Playoffs, particularly in the DS round which is only best-of-five. Here’s where all 10 teams stand heading into the postseason according to oddsmakers, via Vegas Insider. 

Chicago Cubs 9/4

Boston Red Sox 6/1

Texas Rangers 6/1 

Washington Nationals 7/1

Cleveland Indians 8/1 

Los Angeles Dodgers 10/1

Toronto Blue Jays 12/1

New York Mets 16/1

San Francisco 18/1

Baltimore Orioles 20/1

The Cubs are absolutely the best team in baseball and deserve their place as the favorite in Vegas. Still, 9/4 is a tough bet for any club in a postseason tournament that often feels like a crapshoot.

Oddsmakers have the Red Sox and Rangers neck-and-neck as the top bets in the AL. The Red Sox are playing the best baseball of any team in the Majors right now, but the Rangers led the AL with 95 wins and face an easier matchup on paper in the DS.

Next up is the 7/1 Nationals, who will have to overcome injuries to Steven Strasburg, Wilson Ramos and others to get out of the very competitive NL. Cleveland finds itself in a similar position after a terrific regular season, as starters Corey Kluber and Danny Salazar are dealing with injuries, and Carlos Carrasco is out for the season.

Perhaps the best value bet on the board is the Dodgers at 10/1. Los Angeles can start two of the best pitchers in baseball in Clayton Kershaw and Rich Hill multiple times in a playoff series, which will challenge the Nationals and anybody else it plays later on.

While both Wild Card Game matchups feature some dangerous teams, they are understandably the four longest shots on the board. The New York Mets could be in good shape at 16/1 if they actually get to a longer series, but will have to deal with Madison Bumgarner first.
