player. 13. Another week, another painful late collapse for the San Diego Chargers. By rights they should be 4-0 but instead are 1-3 because they just don’t seem to have the manpower to keep a lead in the final minutes of a game. Is that lack of talent or is it poor coaching? Well the longer it goes on, the more the finger will be pointed at the coaches. That is just inevitable. However it doesn’t mean there isn’t a talent concern too.

The absence of first-round pick Joey Bosa, somebody who was expected to invigorate their pass rush, continues to loom large. It works both ways though. The secondary hasn’t done its part. Maybe the absence of Eric Weddle on the back end is hurting them more than they realize, or perhaps their cornerback situation is more precarious than expected. Casey Heyward has played well but Jason Verrett and Brandon Flowers have struggled. Maybe more help is needed.

In terms of NFL-readiness and fitting the profile of a modern cornerback, there is nobody better in the 2017 class than Jalen Tabor. He’s got that right mixture of size, speed and fluid athleticism to where he can stick with receivers wherever they go. He’s tough enough to make tackle and has consistently good ball skills to make the big play when it should be made. His addition along with the hopeful emergence of Bosa would change things for sure.
. CB. Florida. Jalen Tabor . 6
