ESPN College Pick Em Picks Week 6

ESPN College Pick Em Picks Week 6
It was another rough week in ESPN College Pick Em. I missed my ten point game, which brought my score crashing down to 31. That said, 95% of game players missed that game, though not everyone had the same confidence in it that I did.

My season total sits at 167 points through five weeks. I still sit in fifth place in the Fantasy CPR reader’s group, and the leader is up to 210. Coming back at this point may border on impossible, but I have my pride. I’m not giving up.
This week looks easier. It may just be because we have several weeks worth of performance to go off of now. However, strange things can happen in conference play.
Here are my ESPN College Pick Em Picks for week 6. They are in order from least confidence (1) to most (10) for those of you that enjoy that version of the game.
(1) Florida State over Miami:
Yes, I know it’s hard to make up ground when I am only putting one point on an upset. The teams that beat Florida State were pretty good teams. Miami is enjoying a top ten ranking, but the best team they have played is Georgia Tech. Nothing against the Bees, but North Carolina and Louisville are both better teams. The Seminoles are tested. This is a great chance to make sure the ACC, and the voters, don’t forget about them. Also, in a possible deluge in Miami, I trust FSU’s running game more than Miami’s.
(2) Arizona State over UCLA:
The Sun Devils are back home after getting embarrassed by a USC team that is finally figuring things out. UCLA looked better against Arizona, but they were also at home. I just don’t see the athletes that Arizona State has being contained by the UCLA defense.
(3) North Carolina over Virginia Tech:
Justin Fuente has turned the Hokies around quickly. This looks like a trap game after a huge win over Florida State for the Heels. That said, I don’t think they lose this at home. It is going to be very close though, hence my low confidence score.
(4) Penn State over Maryland:
I could go into a whole breakdown about why I chose Penn State, but only one reason looms large: they don’t lose at home. At least not to a team that is about the same level as them. Maryland’s offense is better, but Trace McSorley torched a decent Minnesota defense last week. Maryland’s defense hasn’t been accused of being decent for some time now. Want another reason? Saquon Barkley is the best player on the field.
(5) LSU over Florida:
NOTE: GAME POSTPONED There is no word from ESPN how this will be handled, so I am moving this down to my one point pick just in case.
It’s a tall order to win in the Swamp, but LSU turned a corner. Les Miles was a problem in the sense that he let Cam Cameron make the offense stale and predictable. It isn’t that way anymore. They were explosive against Missouri, and that was without Leonard Fournette, who is arguably the best back in college. Even if Luke Del Rio is at 100%, I still take LSU.
(6)Oklahoma over Texas:
This is precisely the kind of game we lose. It’s almost like we don’t want Texas to hire a new coach that would be better than the one they currently have. Oklahoma saved Mack Brown’s job at least twice. They saved Charlie Strong’s last year. Now the seat under Strong is as hot as a branding iron once again. Texas is a double digit dog once again. Oklahoma is the far better team on paper once again. So why am I picking Oklahoma? Because I can’t find it in me to take Texas. This would be my ten pointer if I thought we wouldn’t choke again.
(7) Texas A&M over Tennessee:
Trevor Knight dominates the SEC, but struggled against the Big 12(10). Go figure. In all seriousness, Tennessee could easily be 2-3 right now. Texas A&M might have the best receiving corps in all of college, and the Oklahoma battery looks better by the game. The Vols have finally found the killer instinct, but if they fall behind here early, they wont get back in this one.
(8) Alabama over Arkansas:
The Hogs are in trouble. They had trouble running against A&M. They had trouble stopping TCU. Alabama has a great run defense, and the offense is tough to stop. Damien Harris is starting to display game breaking ability. Calvin Ridley is still the best receiver east of the Mississippi. I haven’t seen anything from Arkansas that says they can stop this.
(9) Washington over Oregon:
If you have never lived in the Pacific Northwest, you don’t understand how much these teams really don’t like each other. It doesn’t get much coverage in other parts of the country, but I promise you, the bad blood is there. Washington has struggled against the Ducks for the last decade. Here comes ten plus years of pent up aggression. This gets ugly.
(10) Ohio State over Indiana:
The win over Michigan State was a fluke. On top of that, Sparty doesn’t look very good to begin with. Ohio State does. They probably should be number one. They have played like a number one team thus far, and have a blowout win in one of the toughest places to play. Indiana comes crashing back to earth here.
