Italy vs. Spain live stream: Watch World Cup Qualifying online
By Dan Voicescu
Italy face Spain at the Juventus Stadium in World Cup Qualifying on Thursday Oct. 6. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
As far as World Cup Qualifying games go, this is as good as it gets. Italy have faced Spain three times in the last two Euros, and won the last meeting at Euro 2016. Both teams are led by new managers. Julen Lopetegui leads Spain, and has the task of rejuvenating La Roja. Lopetegui managed the Spanish U20 and U21 teams before taking the FC Porto job in 2014. This will be an early test for Lopetegui, who needs a positive result away to Italy, while also overseeing the changing of the guard. Part of the transition includes the inclusion of players such as Isco, Saul, Thiago Alcantara from the fringes of La Roja and into the core of the Spanish national team.
On the opposite side, the Azzuri have tapped Giampiero Ventura, a veteran coach most recently in charge of AC Torino. Based on their first qualifying match-up — a 3-1 away victory in Israel — it looks like Ventura is continuing along the path set out by former manager Antonio Conte by maintaining the 3-5-2 formation. The one issue Ventura must deal with is the suspension of Giorgio Chellini. I anticipate a straight swap with Mattia De Sciglio replacing Chellini as part of the three man back line.

If either team is able to take all three points it will place them firmly in the driver seat of Group G. Italy has not lost in its last 51 qualifying games and have never lost a World Cup qualifying game at home. I expect this impressive streak to continue. However, Spain’s young breed of talented midfielders (Saul, Thiago, Koke) along with Iniesta and a rejuvenated Diego Costa upfront provide enough grit and firepower to earn La Roja a point on the road.
