The Tennessee Volunteers won’t have starting running back Jalen Hurd in Saturday’s game versus the Texas A&M Aggies. He’s dealing with a lower-body injury.

The No. 9 Tennessee Volunteers will have their toughest game so far this season when they take on the No. 8 Texas A&M Aggies in College Station on Saturday. Unfortunately, it’s looking like the Volunteers won’t have the services of starting running back Jalen Hurd.

According to 24/7 Sports, Hurd “is not expected to take the field when the Vols play the Aggies in College Station this weekend.” Head coach Butch Jones had Hurd ‘listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury.” However, this may not even be the case.

24/7 Sports would say that while Hurd isn’t “being benched or in the doghouse”, he might actually be suffering from a more serious “upper-body injury.” Either way, Tennessee is probably not going to play Hurd on Saturday. That means Alvin Kamara will be Tennessee’s bell-cow back on Saturday versus the Aggies.

Hurd had a couple of interesting things happen to him in Tennessee’s come-from-behind victory over Georgia. He fumbled the football at the goal line on what should have been a certain touchdown for Tennessee in the first half. Hurd would score on a later possession on a pass from quarterback Joshua Dobbs, but didn’t return to the field after the score.

It was strange to see Jones keep one of his best offensive playmakers out in the second half of a huge rivalry game. Could Hurd be in Jones’ doghouse? Absolutely. That fumble was deplorably bad. However, there is a good chance Hurd hurt himself versus Georgia.

Tennessee may not beat Texas A&M in College Station anyway. It might be in his and Tennessee’s best interest to have him at full strength in the Volunteers’ next game against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
