What were some of the main takeaways from Friday’s game between Clemson and Boston College?
On Friday night, No. 3-ranked Clemson and Boston College kicked off the college football weekend from Chestnut Hill, MA. The Tigers were coming off their defeat of No. 3 Louisville and looked to continue their momentum against the 3-2 Eagles.
Well, the game never was close, except for when Boston College kicked a field goal to open the game, 3-0. Clemson dominated afterward and won the game, 56-10.
Clemson never took Boston College lightly
Clemson vs. Louisville had arguably been the game of the season in Week 5. It’s one that potentially had College Football Playoff implications. The Tigers survived and remained perfect. However, there’s still half a season to go. Even if Boston College isn’t even a top-five team in ACC, they still had to be taken seriously.
Clemson never took their foot off the gas pedal and blew out BC. The only hiccup was a muffed punt in the first few minutes of the game. Other than that and a third quarter touchdown, Dabo Swinney and Co. shut them down. They didn’t take their focus off this lesser opponent, which is obviously a good thing.
Deshaun Watson improves his Heisman candidacy
Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson is at the head of the table for the Heisman Trophy. He has nearly 30 touchdowns through almost half a season, and has shown no signs of slowing down. There is a star-studded group behind him, though, which may have Deshaun Watson as the next one in line.

Watson’s dominance over Boston College likely isn’t going to earn him any credibility toward a potential trophy win in December, but this game padded his stats. 267 yards, four touchdowns and zero interception on 24 passes is solid, and should boost his future candidacy.
What’s next for Clemson?
Now that Clemson’s season is halfway over, they can start to potentially look at perfection. The last six games are against the likes of North Carolina State, Syracuse, Pittsburgh and North Carolina. All of these games should be easily winnable, except for Florida State. However, even the Seminoles have struggled this season. This includes a 40-plus point blowout loss to Louisville.

So, Clemson will turn their attention to NC State on Oct. 15 and look to sustain their perfect record. They’ll probably still be at No. 3 in the AP Poll, though, unless Ohio State or Alabama lose this weekend.
