Five ways Tom Brady can stick it to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell
By Adam Jacobs
Tom Brady returns from his four-game suspension for Deflategate on Sunday as his revenge tour gets underway. Here’s how he can get the ultimate revenge on NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Tom Brady returns this week from his 4-game suspension for his part in deflategate and I’m sure he’s looking for ways to show up Roger Goodell. Deflategate has become a ridiculous blemish on the NFL and Brady since the story first surfaced Jan 18, 2015.
This all began when the NFL accused the Patriots, Brady and their equipment staff of illegally deflating footballs before the AFC Championship game. Brady and the Patriots staff denied tampering with the balls and thought that was it. The Patriots went on to win Super Bowl XLIX, by defeating the Seattle Seahawks 28-24.
On May 6, 2015, the Wells report is released and it implicates the Patriots equipment staff and Brady in the tampering of footballs by deflating them below the allowable PSI. This was a huge blow to the Patriots and Brady, who was subsequently suspended for four games. The Patriots were also handed a million dollar fine and lost two draft picks.
After countless court hearings and appeals, Brady accepted his punishment on July 15, 2016. Now he is ready to exact revenge on Goodell, beginning with launching his own investigation.
5. Launch own investigation of Goodell
If I were Brady, I’d want Goodell to feel the same pain I felt. Brady should use some of his extensive fortunes to finance his own investigation of Goodell and the NFL’s knowledge of concussions.
We all know Goodell has been engulfed in controversy ever since he took over as commissioner in 2006. He walked right into the problems surrounding concussions and CTE. In my opinion, he blatantly lied and covered up the league’s knowledge of concussions and CTE. Goodell used every trick to not break the law but also not cooperate with congress.
Brady should hire the same people used to investigate Deflategate and have them investigate Goodell. He won’t like his secrets being brought to the public eye and may force him to eventually step down as commissioner. The so-called “most powerful man in sports” could wither from the intense heat an investigation like this would bring.
It’s obvious to everyone that player health and concussions are way more important than slightly deflated balls. I think the NFL would be better off without someone as vindictive as Goodell in the powerful position he is in. A good commissioner should be impartial and Goodell’s actions have shown his inadequacies. Brady’s own investigation would be an interesting twist on this already extraordinary situation.
