Cam Newton is among the Panthers who will miss Monday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Coming off an embarrassing loss to the Atlanta Falcons, the Carolina Panthers find themselves needing a win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A win will not be easy, as several players will be missing Monday Night’s game, including star quarterback Cam Newton. Newton suffered a concussion against the Falcons and didn’t practice at all last week.

Without Newton, the Panthers will turn to Derek Anderson who has a solid history against the Buccaneers, beating them twice in 2014. He has found himself a home in Carolina following an up and down tenure with the Cleveland Browns. Anderson threw for two touchdowns and two interceptions in relief of Newton against the Falcons.

He has 10,118 career passing yards. 970 of them have come with the Panthers, with 7,083 of them coming with the Browns. Anderson has also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals, with 2,065 passing yards in one season with them.

Without Newton, the Panthers could struggle to win. Anderson is a clear downgrade from Newton. The Buccaneers have allowed 1,034 passing yards this season, 18th in the NFL. However, their nine passing touchdowns against rank fifth in the NFL.

The Panthers will also be without left tackle Michael Oher, who is out with a concussion. They will also be without starting running back Jonathan Stewart, who has a hamstring injury. Carolina will be without both its starting quarterback and its starting running back. In two games this season, Stewart has 73 years on 20 carries. However, they have a very capable backup in Fozzy Whitaker, who is second on the Panthers in rushing yards to Newton.
