College Football Picks Against The Spread Afternoon October 8
It was another bad week for me. I know, I sound like a broken record this year. College football is a fickle beast sometimes. It’s going to be really hard to get myself out of this hole. With the season already nearly a third over, maybe 50% is a more realistic goal. Then again, the games with FCS opponents are pretty much over, so I will have 60 games per week to get back on track!

Sunday through Friday, I am the perfect husband. No really, I am. You can ask the boss a.k.a. my wife. I help with all of the household chores, walk the dogs, cook meals, all that good stuff that women love. Come Saturday, my wife hates me. This is MY day. I become one with the couch. Just another piece of immovable furniture. Why am I interested in so many games? Other than the fact that I love college football, here is why: I was possessed by Jimmy The Greek and Lee Corso at the same time!
In case you don’t know what I do here, I pick every college football game of the season. Against the spread. Trust me, it’s not as easy as it sounds! I take the average of the odds from all of the Vegas casinos. I then round to the nearest half. There will be no ties here. Ties are for the other football (soccer).
This contains the picks for FBS vs. FBS game only. It is too hard to get an accurate spread on teams that involve 1-AA teams.
I will assign a point value “bet” on each game, between one and five points. That way you can see just how confident I am in each pick. Look for those at the end of each line.
This is for entertainment purposes only! I cannot be responsible for you losing any of your worldly possessions (or limbs) because of my picks. These are a guideline that you can use to help you with your picks. I am a simple man. I can’t have that on my conscience.
There are 56 games this week. The Old Dominion-UMass game was moved to last night, so that game can be found in the previous post. We have 15 games between 3:30 and 7pm Eastern. Let’s get to those picks!
Just in case you missed any:
Wednesday-Friday
Saturday Noon
Iowa State at Oklahoma State(-16.5)(2): The Cyclones usually play well at home, but that has never carried over to road games. Give me Oklahoma State.
(25)Virginia Tech at (17)North Carolina(-1.5)(3): This line has fallen five points already. I see why. This has all the makings of a trap game. That said, I’m a believer in this Tarheel offense. UNC by four.
Indiana at (2)Ohio State(-28.5)(2): Indiana is coming off one of the bigger wins this century for the football team. If they come out lethargic, they will get buried. However, I tend to think last week gave them confidence. Ohio State wins, but not by this much. Give me Indiana.
Purdue at Illinois(-10.5)(5): WAY too low. Maryland beat the Boilers by 43! I have to think Illinois can do half that!
Texas State at Georgia State(-10.5)(2): This looks a bit high. The Panthers haven’t won a game yet. The Bobcats are sitting at .500 (yes, they are better than me). Give me Texas State.
Kent State(-1.5) at Buffalo(1): I don’t even know where to go with this both teams are bad. Give me the Bulls at home.
Ball State at Central Michigan(-12.5)(2): That’s quite a few points for a team that got beat on their home field by 39 last week. That said, Western Michigan might be good enough to win the Big Ten West this year. Give me the Chips.
Air Force(-11.5) at Wyoming(2): This looks like too many. Wyoming beat two solid teams in Northern Illinois and Colorado State and nearly took out a resurgent Eastern Michigan team. I don’t think the Cowboys win outright, but I bet they keep this within ten.
(9)Tennessee at (8)Texas A&M(-6.5)(4): The Vols luck runs out here. Aggies by double digits.
Army at Duke(-5.5)(3): This line is backwards. Army straight up.
BYU at Michigan State(-5.5)(2): This underachievers anonymous meeting in East Lansing should turn in to a good football game. Like within three points either way. Give me BYU.
Vanderbilt at Kentucky(-3.5)(2): I saw a sign a couple of weeks ago on GameDay that said “at least we aren’t Kentucky.” Amusing, but Tennessee shouldn’t be concerned with that. Now if a fan at Vandy were holding that sign, well, that would have been funny. To me, Vandy looks like the better team. Give me the ‘Dores.
(21)Colorado at USC(-5.5)(2): The Ralphies are ranked for the first time since 2005. It has been a slow decade for the Buffs, but they have looked good in every game this year, even in the loss to Michigan. They may not win this game, but they put a big scare into the Trojans even if they don’t. Give me Colorado.
Hawaii at San Jose State(-3.5)(2): This is on the mainland. Hawaii has the talent to win, but wont. Give me SJSU.
Northern Illinois at Western Michigan(-17.5)(3): Considering the way the Broncos have played, this looks very low. The only thing I know for certain is that their seven game losing streak to the Huskies stops here. WMU will make some noise for a New Year’s Six slot. They need someone to do them a solid and beat Houston though. Give me WMU.
