#21 Colorado Buffaloes head to Los Angeles on Saturday, October 18, to take on the USC Trojans.
The CU Buffs haven’t been ranked for over ten years but they’re having a heck of a season this year. The Buffs are 4-1 overall and are 2-0 in the Pac-12. Their sole loss comes from their game against Michigan; it was that game where senior quarterback Sefo Liufau was injured. Redshirt freshman Steven Montez has stepped up in Liufau’s absence, throwing a combined 626 yards between the Oregon and Oregon State games with three touchdowns in the Oregon State game alone. Head coach Mike MacIntyre has yet to determine which quarterback will face the Trojans on Saturday, saying “We’ll see how this week goes.”
USC has had its fair share of trouble at quarterback, with redshirt freshman Sam Darnold replacing junior Max Browne. Darnold has had no trouble connecting with All-American JuJu Smith-Schuster, who caught three touchdowns in the Arizona State game last week.
Darnold’s performance has been a bright spot for the Trojans in an otherwise disappointing season.USC is currently sitting on a 2-3 record and is 1-2 in the Pac-12. Their 41-20 win last week against Arizona State caps off losses to Alabama, Stanford and Utah. They can get back into the thick of the Pac-12 with a win over Colorado.

Buffs coach MacIntyre knows that it’s too early in the season to start celebrating. “We’ve got to keep playing games,” he said. “Every team that’s left to play can beat us, and we can beat every team left.”If Mendez gets the start for the Buffs, we’ll see two redshirt freshmen leading two teams who really need to win this game.
