Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks was forced to leave Game 2. He suffered an arm injury that was caused by a line drive.

The Chicago Cubs are still clinging onto a 5-2 lead over the San Francisco Giants in Game 2 of the National League Division Series. The game’s intensity has picked up even more with Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks leaving with an injury. Hendricks was struck by a line drive in the arm, and the Cubs were forced to bring in Travis Wood.

Fortunately, the Cubs got off to a roaring start against the Giants, as they took a 4-0 lead in the second inning. This included a two-run single from Hendricks himself, and Wood added on to the pitchers’ offensive production with a solo home run. The Cubs are clearly determined to build on their 103-win season. They are also seeking to break their 108-year-long World Series curse.

If the Cubs pitchers can carry the load on offense, there’s no telling what this team can accomplish if their lineup can stay on track. The Cubs lineup consists of power hitters such as third baseman Kris Bryant. The power-hitting third baseman is expected to be crowned National League MVP. Bryant has also contributed positively for the Cubs, as he drove in a run of his own with a single.

It remains to be seen whether the Cubs can hold on and continue to hold off the Giants’ even-year magic. This magic enabled the Giants to win the last three World Series that were held in even years. The Cubs appear to be on track to take a 2-0 series lead though and they would join the Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians in achieving this feat.
