Georgia Tech is battling to stay relevant in the ACC this season after starting just 3-2 with losses to Clemson and Miami to begin conference play. The Yellow Jackets have been successful in times of adversity under Paul Johnson before and if the run game remains strong, they can turn it around.
Justin Thomas is more of a game-manager at quarterback than anything, running for 151 yards and a touchdown along with 458 passing yards and two more scores. Through five games, he has just three receivers with over 100 yards.
Dedrick Mills leads all rushers, though, with 300 yards and seven touchdowns on 4.5 per touch. Four other rushers, including Thomas, have accounted for over 100 yards this season as the Yellow Jackets average over 230 yards per game on the ground.
Pittsburgh is also trying to remain relevant, having suffered two tough losses after defeating top rival Penn State. The Panthers, led by former Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi, are still a program on the rise despite a 3-2 start.
Nathan Peterman has been solid at quarterback for the Panthers, but his numbers won’t blow anyone away. He has passed for 923 yards and eight touchdowns with a 64 percent completion rate. Jester Weah has been his favorite target, catching 14 passes for 313 yards and three touchdowns.
Quadree Henderson, a sophomore wide out, might be the most electric player on the team, ranking second on the team in rushing as well. However, the rushing attack is led by feel-good story James Conner. He has overcome cancer to lead the team with 381 yards and five touchdowns.
