Hurricane Matthew has affected a few games on the Week 6 college football slate. It has also caused a delay in the Week 7 release of the AP Top 25 Poll.

The Atlantic Coast north of West Palm Beach is dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. Two notable SEC games have been affected by the tropical storm.

The Florida Gators’ home game in Gainesville against the LSU Tigers has been cancelled. The South Carolina Gamecocks’ home game against the Georgia Bulldogs has been moved to Sunday afternoon at 2:30 PM ET.

Because of the South Carolina/Georgia game being moved to Sunday afternoon, it has delayed the release of the AP Top 25 Poll for Week 7. This is because if Georgia wins in Columbia, the Bulldogs will be 4-2 and in a spot to crack the AP Top 25 Poll.

Georgia is favored by seven points on the road against South Carolina. Though these are two rebuilding programs in the SEC East, Georgia has more offensive firepower than South Carolina.

The Gamecocks have scored 20 or fewer points in all five of their 2016 games. Outside of a Week 4 drubbing in Oxford to the Ole Miss Rebels, Georgia has scored at least 24 points in four of its five games this season.

It makes perfect sense for the Associated Press to wait an extra day before releasing its Top 25 Poll for Week 7. Georgia received 42 votes in the Week 6 poll. That had the Bulldogs as the No. 31 team in the nation.

A win in Columbia should be enough to get Georgia back into the AP Top 25 with a 4-2 (2-2) record on the year. It’s interesting that one SEC East rivalry game has enough impact to delay the AP Poll’s release by one day.
