The No. 6 Houston Cougars lost to the Navy Midshipmen, 46-40 on Saturday. How does Houston’s first loss shape the projected AP Top 25 Poll in Week 7?
The biggest upset of the day in Week 6 of the 2016 college football season happened in of all places Annapolis, Maryland. The Navy Midshipmen were able to knock off the No. 6 Houston Cougars, 46-40, to move to 4-1 on the year.
Houston’s bid at making the College Football Playoff has come to an end. No Group of 5 team will get in without an undefeated season. Houston can still earn the Group of 5’s New Year’s Six bowl bid, but it won’t be in the National Semifinals.
Here is a look at what the AP Top 25 Poll could look like in Week 7 after Houston’s loss to Navy:
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- Ohio State Buckeyes
- Clemson Tigers
- Michigan Wolverines
- Washington Huskies
- Texas A&M Aggies
- Louisville Cardinals
- Miami Hurricanes
- Wisconsin Badgers
- Nebraska Cornhuskers
This projection assumes that Navy knocking off Houston will be the lone major upset of the Week 6 slate. The top-five does not change with the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Clemson Tigers, the Michigan Wolverines, and the Washington Huskies keeping their spots.

With a win over the No. 9 Tennessee Volunteers in College Station, the Texas A&M Aggies leapfrog the Louisville Cardinals to land at No. 6 in Week 7. Louisville stays at No. 7.
Should the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes hold off the No. 23 Florida State Seminoles, the Hurricanes will improve to No. 8 in the projected AP Top 25 Poll. Moving into the top-10 are two idle Big Ten programs.

The Wisconsin Badgers will be No. 9. Their loss to No. 4 Michigan is the second-best loss of the season to Louisville’s Week 5 loss to Clemson. The Nebraska Cornhuskers get into the top-10 at a perfect 5-0. They haven’t had a huge win thus far, but Nebraska should be the No. 10 team in the nation if everything else holds true this weekend.
