Full streaming details for Saturday’s Big Ten matchup between the Purdue Boilermakers and Illinois Fighting Illini.
A pair of struggling Big Ten West teams will try to grab their first win in conference play this season when the Illinois Fighting Illini host the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
First-year head coach Lovie Smith has some work to do in Champaign, as the Illini currently sit at 1-3. Following a season-opening win over Murray State, Illinois has lost three in a row, but at least played No. 12 Nebraska tough last weekend before surrendering a 16-10 lead in the fourth quarter.
While the Illinois’ offense is struggling through a lack of playmakers, senior quarterback Wes Lunt is playing much better than last year with six touchdowns to one interception so far. Junior Kendrick Foster is the Illini’s best big play threat with 25 carries for 221 yards and four total touchdowns on the season and could be in line for a big day against the suspect Purdue run defense.
Purdue went 2-1 in nonconference play before being destroyed 50-7 by Maryland to open up its Big Ten slate. With a mark career 2-23 record in Big Ten games, Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell could be the next head coach to be dismissed should the Boilermakers lose on Saturday.
While the Boilermakers surrendered 400 yards on the ground last week, the bigger concern could be on offense. Sophomore quarterback David Blough has six touchdowns to seven interceptions on the season and completed just 43.1 percent of his passes against the Terrapins. Running back Markell Jones has racked up 339 yards on 73 carries but was also shut down at Maryland.
Illinois’ defensive line will easily be the most talented unit on the field Saturday, and could have a field day against Purdue. Still, this is one of the few winnable games left on the Purdue schedule, so the Boilermakers could come out fired up in support of their embattled head coach.
