Wake Forest will pay tribute to the late Arnold Palmer with a decal on their helmets on Saturday for their game vs Syracuse

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons have been enjoying a bit of surprise success through their first five games of the 2016 college football season. As they start to get into the heart of ACC play, though, we’ll start to see how for real they are. In Week 6, though, they’ll welcome the Syracuse Orange to town. However, the Demon Deacons will have a little extra help on their side for this matchup: the memory of Arnold Palmer.

One of the greatest golfers to ever live, Palmer passed away just under two weeks ago at 87 years old. The King is one of the most celebrated and decorated golfers in history. He also happens to be a former student at Wake Forest before making his turn to pro golfing. Subsequently, Wake Forest will pay tribute to the memory of Palmer with a helmet decal on Saturday against Syracuse.

Quite frankly, they couldn’t have done a more perfect job with the decal:

The umbrella is, of course, the logo of The King and the symbol for the beverage that Palmer made famous and is consequently named after him. Needless to say, it works beautifully in remembering one of the greatest athletes of all time on the back of their helmet.

Palmer first attended Wake Forest on a golf scholarship in the late 1940s. He left for three years, though, after he joined the U.S. Coast guard. The King (before he was The King) returned to Winston Salem, NC to finish his education and hone his golf game. Needless to say given his accomplishments on the links, he succeeded at the latter.

This is truly an awesome and touching tribute to one of the greats in all of sports. Well done, Wake.
