Late Bloomer Tevin Farmer is Becoming One of the Best Fighters in the World
By Eric Kelly
With has a record of 22-4-1-5 KOs, Philadelphia super featherweight Tevin Farmer is quietly becoming on of the hottest boxing prospects in the world.
While at first glance his record might not impress you, consider that he has been on a 15-fight win streak and hasn’t loss a fight in the past 4 years. You’ll soon come to the realization that he’s just a late bloomer.
Lots of unfortunate things happen to professional fighters who don’t come out of the amateurs with an elite resume’ and, thus, aren’t courted by high-profile promoters. Farmer was one of those fighters.

Since his last loss back in 2012 and during that 15-fight win streak, Farmer has picked up the NABF Super Featherweight title and beaten top prospects like then-undefeated Angel Luna, Emanuel Gonzalez, and most recently Ivan Redkach at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
I love how Farmer has grown as a fighter. He has obviously done LOTS of his learning on the job. Every time out, there’s a different Tevin Farmer. From his hand speed to his movement and punch slipping ability, he reminds of another Philadelphia legend, the 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist and 2-time World Champion Meldrick Taylor. Unlike Taylor, lets hope that Farmer continues to grow with his keen defensive skills and fancy foot work. With only 5 KOs to his credit, Farmer isn’t seen as a heavy puncher and that can call for trouble, as lots of fighters will just walk through the punches of guy who’s not know for flatlining fighters. So Farmer better be ready to stick and move.
One thing that Philadelphia fighters are renowned for is their tremendous courage and heart. They are warriors. To us fans, that’s one of the greatest traits that makes for amazing fighters. At the same time, these fighters are still human with families that they need cared for. When your daughter is 12 and you’re stuttering and slobbering when you talk because you’ve taken too much punishment to the brain for very little money, you need to step a way from the ring ASAP. Sadly, for many fighters today, boxing is all that they know, and have no other way to support their families. Thus, they fight.
I pray that Tevin has peeped game and learned the pros and cons of other fighters and will not allow himself to move down the same path. So far, he’s got the world by the balls; but how long does that last? He already has 27 fights. Now is the time to start making some money, continue to climb the ranks like he has been, and hopefully become a world champion so that he’s able to provide for his family and make some investments. He needs to assure that that money is coming in even after he hangs the gloves up.
I’ll be on hand at Philadelphia’s 2300 Arena to see Farmer take on 19-7 Orlando Rizo, on a card that includes a super welterweight match-up of fellow Philly-area fighters Tyrone Brunson and Ismael Garcia.
