Week 6 of the college football season is in the books, and a few players continue to dominate individually. Here are the top five performers from Week 6.

It was yet another incredible week of college football, as some big names started to make their case for the Heisman Trophy. There were plenty of games that went down to the wire, as the conference schedule has started to heat up. This is the time of year where the contenders separate themselves from the pretenders, and that certainly happened this past week.

While there were some incredible team efforts, we take a look at five players who put their team on their back in Week 6. The competition is only going to get harder from here on out, as teams have begun to show their identity. For some players, that will not matter, as they continue their quest for college football’s greatest individual honor.

Here is a look at the top five individual performances from Week 6 of the college football season.

The Auburn Tigers are very lucky that they have a solid No. 2 at the running back position. After starter Kerryon Johnson injured his ankle on the second drive of the game, backup running back Kamryn Pettway stepped right in, putting together a dominant effort against Mississippi State. The sophomore ran for 169 yards on 39 carries, while scoring three times.

All three of those statistics were career-highs for Pettway, who actually did not carry the ball at all last year. Aside from Johnson getting hurt, the Tigers were also light at the position due to their No. 3 running back, Malik Miller, being ruled out before the game. Pettway’s effort helped the Tigers to a 35-0 halftime lead, which they rode to a 38-14 victory.

Pettway is a physical runner who broke the Bulldogs back time and time again. Though he did not break any huge runs, his consistency up the middle helped give the Tigers an advantage on the line. To run the ball 39 times is quite an accomplishment, but to do it when the team needed you the most is what makes his performance so special.
