The National Football League is a place of wonderment. That is not always a good thing.
I write about the NFL for my career. It helps to put food on the table and the rent checks in the mail every 30th of the month. Still, there is something that needs to be said about America’s most popular spectator sport:
Through five weeks of the 2016 regular season, some of these coaches and teams should be forced to retire and/or contract.
What is going on with the Miami Dolphins? Yeah, they don’t have a great roster, but it’s not the 1976 Buccaneers either. Can you look good once this year? Right now, Adam Gase is looking to go the way of Cam Cameron as a one-and-done in South Beach.
Across the country, there are the San Francisco 49ers. Finally, Chip Kelly is going with Colin Kaepernick over Blaine Gabbert. What took so damn long? And hell, even if Kaepernick was not physically up to the task, you can’t find someone better in the offseason than Gabbert? This mess falls at the feet of Kelly and general manager Trent Baalke, who should have been fired years ago.
Then there are the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City is only 2-2 and certainly in decent standing, but can Andy Reid call anything other than a bubble screen? It’s absurd. The Chiefs might be the most boring offense in the league, and it is a roster that includes Jeremy Maclin, Travis Kelce, Jamaal Charles and Spencer Ware. Come on, Andy. Get it together.
So what is the point of this whole rant? Well, you should demand better as fans. If your team is consistently trash (I’m looking at about a quarter of the league), stop watching. Stop going to games. Stop buying crappy jerseys. You are letting the owner know that everything is cool.
As for the names mentioned both above and in the video, do better. We are stuck watching you.
