Iowa: Steve Bartkowski – California Golden Bears

The best pro quarterback born in Iowa is clearly Kurt Warner, but his college career at Northern Iowa was nothing special. Other signal-callers born in the state such as Kyle Orton and Trent Green had better college careers, but nothing too noteworthy. This leads us to Steve Bartkowski, the best college quarterback born in the Hawkeye State.

In 1972 and 1973, Bartkowski split quarterback duties with Vince Ferragamo and put up some decent numbers. However, he had his breakout season as a senior in 1974. During that season, he led the NCAA in passing yards and completions while being a consensus All-American. He also finished 10th in the Heisman Trophy voting that year.

Bartkowski would eventually become the top overall selection in the 1975 NFL Draft and enjoyed a good pro career. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2012. Steve Bartkowski is easily the best college quarterback born in Iowa, and it may stay that way for a while.
