North Dakota: Brooks Bollinger – Wisconsin Badgers

When people think of North Dakota football, the first name that gets mentioned these days is Philadelphia Eagles rookie Carson Wentz. He was raised in the state and starred at North Dakota State before taking the NFL by storm this season. However, Wentz was actually born in North Carolina and doesn’t qualify for this “award.” Therefore, the best college quarterback born in the Peace Garden State is Wisconsin’s, Brooks Bollinger.

Bollinger was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota and attended Central High School, where he played quarterback. He went on to become a four-year starter for the Wisconsin Badgers and achieved a good level of success. Brooks was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 1999 and was a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Award in 2002. He graduated from Wisconsin with a 3-0 bowl game record and the school’s rushing record for quarterbacks with 1,767 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Bollinger’s pro career started in the NFL but ended in the UFL, where he was MVP in 2009. It was a semi-satisfying end to his pro career after being pretty successful in college. North Dakota doesn’t produce much when it comes to college football players, but Brooks Bollinger is the cream of their crop.
