Connecticut: Dan Orlovsky – Connecticut Huskies

Connecticut has produced some elite players over the decades, including Bill Romanowski, Dwight Freeney and current Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed. However, when it comes to top college quarterbacks, the list is short. In fact, only one name truly comes to mind: former UConn star Dan Orlovsky.

Orlovsky became the starting quarterback for the Huskies during his freshman year and never looked back. After a decent sophomore season where he threw for 2,488 yards and 19 touchdowns, he really came into his own the following year. As a junior, Orlovsky ranked seventh in the nation in passing touchdowns with 33.

As a senior, Orlovsky led Connecticut to victory in the 2004 Motor City Bowl against Toledo. It was UConn’s first-ever bowl appearance and Orlovsky was named the game’s MVP. He ended his college career as the school record holder for pass completions, passing yards, touchdown passes and total yards.

Orlovsky served as the face of UConn football as he was their starting quarterback during the transition from Division I-AA to a full-fledged member of the Big East. He currently plays in the NFL as a backup for Matt Stafford on the Detroit Lions. His pro career may never match his collegiate success, but it’s safe to say that he’s the best college quarterback born in the Constitution State.
