Best college football quarterback born in every state

Delaware: George Chalmers – Maryland Terrapins
This was a difficult pick. Rich Gannon and Joe Flacco both impressed for the University of Delaware, but neither was born in the First State. Therefore, we’re going to turn back the clock. From 1929-31, Delaware native George Chalmers left his mark playing for the University of Maryland.
Chalmers was born in New Castle, Delaware and played three sports for Maryland. On the football squad, he played wingback in a double-wing offense, where passing was his primary role. He was one of the heroes of the 1929 season when Maryland upset Yale in a 13-13 tie. Chalmers was responsible for one of the Terrapins’ touchdowns with a pass to receiver Boze Berger.
In 1931, Chalmers led Maryland to an 8-1-1 record and was named to the All-Maryland team. He was considered to be one of the school’s triple threats due to his ability to pass, run and kick. Chalmers was also considered to be the best forward passer in the South. After graduation, he was signed by a Philadelphia-based pro team called the Frankford Legion.
Chalmers was elected to the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame in 1981 and inducted into the University of Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame in 1983. He may not be the biggest name in college football, but George Chalmers has no competition as the best college quarterback born in Delaware.
