The Chicago Cubs came back and took the lead in incredible fashion in the ninth inning of Game 4 of the NLDS.
Just when it looked like the San Francisco Giants were pulling their even year magic against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night, the bats came alive in the ninth inning for Chicago. As the Giants’ bullpen once again struggled to put anyone away, the first two hitters of the inning got on a base. Then a couple of batters later, Wilson Contreras hit a ball up the middle to bring in two.
As the Cubs tied the game, the dread of having to go back to Chicago for a Game 5 suddenly began to dissipate. Then as Jason Heyward got to second on a throwing error, Javier Baez would hit a slow roller up the middle to bring Heyward in.
The Cubs would take the lead and their dugout began to go crazy, as they were just three outs away from advancing to the NLDS. Throughout the entirety of Game 4, the pitching and hitting was not there at all for Chicago. When they needed it most, their hitters came through big time for them.
After the Giants blew a save the night before, it had become abundantly clear that their bullpen couldn’t hold down lead. Baez has spent the NLDS making big hits and he along with several others made big ones on Tuesday night.
