Week 5 results

The Garo Yip-premians 13, Gano You Gonna Lose 11

In the closest and also lowest-scoring contest of the week, The Garo Yip-premiansĀ finally got theirĀ first win of the season after being the last team inĀ the league to grabĀ a W. He edged outĀ Mike DyceĀ who had won three in a row coming into this contest. While Roberto Aguayo still missed a pair of FG, his seven points along with six from Matt Prater were enough to get GaroĀ off theĀ schneid.

Dyce got plenty of production from Josh Brown who had double-digit fantasy points against the Packers on Sunday Night Football. The problem with his ā€œGano you gonna loseā€ team was his namesake Graham Gano. Gano only made two XPĀ against the Bucs on Monday Night Football and missed his only FG leaving him with just one point. If GanoĀ had been able to covert, the four-point swing would have been enough to keep Dyce tied for the division lead and keep Yip-PremiansĀ winless. Gano missed, though, so the Yips got the ā€œWā€Ā improved to 1-4 while Dyce slid to 3-2.

Reach for the Bleach 20, May the Folk be with you 7

In our all-Matt matchup of the week made even more relevant by Hurricane Matthew, Matt Blake wasĀ crushed byĀ Matt VerderameĀ 20-7. Blake came into the week with a better record, but Verderame pulled even with him and Adam Best atop the division with a rout thanks mostly to Sebastian Janikowski. The Raiders’ kicker hung up 16 fantasy points against the Chargers with 4/5 FG including a five-point long kick. Dan Bailey was perfect on his four XP attempts in Dallas giving Verderame the 20 points he needed to cruise to a a win.

The Folk wasn’t with Blake as he left the Jets’ kicker on his bench and rolled with Dan Carpenter and Justin Tucker. Tucker was perfect on his one XP and one FG attempt for four points while Carpenter made his one FG and three of his XP, but also missed an XP leaving him with just three points.Ā As it turned out, the four-point swing when Carpenter missed didn’t end up deciding this game, and it didn’t even matter that Blake’s one kicker on the bench had as many fantasy points as his two starting kickers combined.

Beckham With the Good Hair 28, Automatica Gramatica 14

It’s been a rough run forĀ Josh HillĀ who dropped his fourth straight to drop to the bottom of the West division. Hill’s total of 14 fantasy points wasn’t bad and was well-balanced with seven from Blair Walsh an seven from Nick Novak. It wasn’t nearly enough, though since Adam BestĀ enjoyed his monster week fromĀ Adam Vinatieri.

The ageless wonder ended up with 21 fantasy points on 5/5 FG and 2/2 XP. Two of his field-goals were long enough to be ofĀ the five-point variety as well. Best also got seven points from a perfect Chandler Catanzaro to boost his total to a week-high 28 fantasy points. The win moves best to 3-2 into the three-way tie atop the West division.

Lutz Triples 20, Team Frank 10

Lutz Triples is my teamĀ (Zachary Thompson), and I was able to get the win over ā€œTeam Frankā€Ā owned byĀ Mark Carman. Carman was without one of his regular starters Steven Hauschka, and Ryan Succop proved to be a disappointing replacement with only three fantasy pointsĀ despite the Titans 30-17 win. Succop missed an XP erasing his there made XP and converted on his one FG attempt. Carman’s other starter, Josh Lambo finished with seven fantasy points on a perfect day of 4/4 on SP and 1/1 FG. The Chargers continue to lose heart-breakers, but it isn’t their kickers fault since he never got a chance to even attempt the game-tying FG after the snap was muffed in Oakland.

I didn’t have my namesake Will Lutz since the Saints were off this week along with the Seahawks.Ā I got solid production from his fill-in, though as Connor Barth kicked ten fantasy points for the Bears while Brandon McManus matched that total with 10 fantasy points of his own against the Falcons in Denver’s loss at home. My two kickers weren’t perfect, since Barth did miss a FG, but his three makes and a couple XP still resulted in my 3-2 record while Team Frank dropped to 2-3.

Lin Elliott: Rot in hell 20, The Big Gostkowski 8

Patrick AllenĀ was the final undefeated team in the league before taking a loss last week, but he bounced back with a win this week behind 13 fantasy points from his waiver wire find in Caleb Sturgis and seven more fantasy points from Chris Boswell. His two kickers were a combined 6/6 on XP and 4/4 on FG as he rolled to 20 fantasy points and his 4-2 mark atop the East.

Allen easily out-distancedĀ Zachary BestĀ who didn’t leave any points on his bench this week since Jason Myers (Jax) was on a bye.Ā Both his kickers missed kicks though withĀ Gostkowski going 1/2 on his two FG attempts and 4/4 on XP. The biggest struggle for Best, though, was Dustin Hopkins of Washington who went 1/2 on FG and also missed an XP ending up with just a single fantasy point. Despite his no. 1 overall pick, Best is now 2-3 and tied for fourth in the East, and he’ll need to turn things around to climb back into the race.
