Leonard Fournette injury update: LSU RB ruled out vs Southern Miss
By Jack Crosby
The LSU Tigers will be without their star running back again, as Leonard Fournette won’t take the field against Southern Miss
It hasn’t been the best season for the LSU Tigers, and it certainly hasn’t been the best campaign for the best player they have on the roster, junior running back Leonard Fournette. The former Heisman Trophy favorite among many has been dealing with an ankle injury since before the season started, and it’ll be leaving him out of another contest.
On Wednesday, interim head coach Ed Orgeron made the announcement that many were expecting this week, that being Fournette will not be in the backfield when the Tigers take on the Southern Miss this coming weekend.
“I don’t think he’s going to play. Hasn’t practiced. I would not expect him to be ready this Saturday,” Orgeron said via Ross Dellenger at The Advocate.
To the point of not practicing, Fournette has not actually practiced in about three weeks as he deals with that lingering ankle injury that has been a thorn in his side since the preseason. It’s becoming even more of a hindrance now, as it’ll leave him out of another one of LSU’s games.
However, leaving him out this weekend might actually be beneficial. Once LSU is done with Southern Miss, they will head off to a pretty tough SEC West slate that includes clashes with Ole Miss, Alabama and Arkansas. When you’re heading into a stretch like that, you want to do whatever you can to make sure your best player can be out there ready to contribute.

But then again, you have folks now who are of the belief that he should just sit out the season.
After coming into another season atop a lot of people’s Heisman boards, Fournette, while dealing with injury, has rushed for just 386 yards on 67 carries with just two touchdowns.
