Canadiens vs. Sabres live stream: Watch online
By David Rouben
The Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres will start their season against each other, but carry lots of injuries. Here’s how to watch the game online.
Last season was a disappointing one for the Montreal Canadiens. Looking to build on a season in which they finished second in the East, they instead bottomed out at 13th. A large part of that was because of Carey Price getting hurt. He only played 12 games, and as a result, the rest of the team suffered. And after star defenseman P.K. Subban got thrown under the bus on multiple occasions, they dealt him in the offseason straight up for Shea Weber.
It was a frustrating season for Habs fans to endure, but they come into this season looking completely different. While Weber is on the decline, he’s still an elite defenseman and is one of the few people who can fill in for P.K. Subban. Alexander Radulov and Andrew Shaw should also help provide depth scoring for a team that desperately needs it.
Canadiens fans had to enjoy watching Carey Price dominate in the World Cup of Hockey, as he led Team Canada to victory. That tournament showed how much of a difference he makes to this team, but anyone hoping to see him suit up in the opener is out of luck. He won’t travel with the team to Buffalo due to the flu, meaning the team will likely roll with Al Montoya in net.

That should give Buffalo Sabres fans a reason to be optimistic, but unfortunately, they have an injury scare of their own. American phenom Jack Eichel, who had a terrific rookie season last year, suffered an ankle injury in practice that could keep him out for at least a month. That is a devastating blow for the Sabres. They’re still a long way from being a playoff team, and Eichel is a key piece in getting them back on the road to being a contender.
This game will be televised on MSG in the Buffalo region, and on Sportsnet 360 and RDS in Montreal. Anyone outside of those markets who wants to watch these games can do so by signing up for NHL GameCenter. It’s costly, to be sure, but totally worth it for any hockey fan.

The injuries to Price and Eichel ruin what would’ve been a great hockey game. But it’s still a clash between divisional rivals and a great chance to assess a new-look Canadiens team.
