Here’s how you can watch Thursday night’s matchup between the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins.

After losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, the Washington Capitals will have to watch the Penguins raise their Stanley Cup banner. The two rivals will square off for bragging rights on Thursday, Oct. 13 in the first game of the season for both teams. Both teams appear to have everything you look for in a Stanley Cup contender.

The Caps won the President’s Trophy last season and are bringing back most of their roster from last season. Captain Alex Ovechkin leads one of the most impressive offenses in the NHL. Vezina Trophy winner Braden Holtby leads an impressive defense which should once again be among the NHL’s best. Evgeny Kuznetsov and Nicklas Backstrom will assist Ovechkin in trying to help the Caps win their first Stanley Cup.

Meanwhile, the Penguins are returning most of their Stanley Cup champion squad from last season. While they will not have captain Sidney Crosby, who is out with a concussion, they still have Evgeni Malkin and Phil Kessel to help lead their offense. Kris Letang and Marc-Andre Fleury will lead their defense as they try to compensate for the loss of their best player.

Both teams hate each other, so this should be an excellent game. The Caps and Pens always seem to put on an impressive showing against each other. Even without Crosby playing, the Penguins will be looking to defend their home ice. Meanwhile, the Caps will be out for revenge after being knocked out of the playoffs by the Penguins.
