The Browns will trot out their rookie QB for a fourth consecutive start this weekend.

Unfortunately for all of our comic relief, it looks as though the Cleveland Browns will in fact play an actual quarterback this Sunday. Reports out of Cleveland are that rookie quarterback Cody Kessler will be healthy enough to return to action against the Titans. After suffering a devastating blow from Patriots linebacker Dont’a Hightower a week ago, the former USC Trojan was forced to leave the game in the first quarter with injured ribs/chest.

There was speculation over whether or not Kessler would be able to return for Week 6, but head coach Hue Jackson confirmed his QB practiced and is ready to go. This is good news for a Browns team that will have an opportunity to win their first game this season. It’s even better news for wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, who was called upon to be an emergency quarterback after Kessler and backup Charlie Whitehurst went down last week.

The Browns cut Whitehurst this week while promoting another rookie QB to their active roster, Kevin Hogan. Cleveland also expects veteran quarterback Josh McCown to be available this weekend and return from his collarbone injury. To put it all in perspective, the Browns QB depth chart is composed of two rookies and a McCown. Does it get any more Brownsian than that?

All jokes aside, Kessler hasn’t looked dreadful so far as a pro. In three games, he has completed about 67% of his passes with two touchdowns and a pick. He has, however, managed to post a QBR of only 46.5 thus far. Yikes.

Just when you think it can’t get worse for the Browns, it does. This franchise is so remarkably unlucky, it’s scary. For now, Cody Kessler will have a chance to end a eight-game slide dating back to 2015.
