College Football Results Against The Spread Week 6

This has been a rough year for me so far. I had a rough week 5 in college football, but upon first glance, week 6 looks much better. I even racked up 50 points in Pick Em, but as we know, the spread is an entirely different beast.

More from College Football Odds

It doesn’t take much to improve on a 109-142 record. Just ask any coach of a losing team. Of course, most coaches would never be allowed to compile that kind of record unless you are a baseball manager. I can’t be bad forever. Past history is on my side (I think).

Let’s check out the college football results for week 6. Winners against the spread are in BOLD. My result will follow that.

Just in case you want to follow along:
Wednesday-Friday
Noon Saturday
Saturday Afternoon
Saturday Night

Georgia Southern(-7.5) at Arkansas State: MISS! Arkansas State finally woke up….kind of. It’s little consolation to them. They still lost.

Temple at Memphis(-9.5): MISS! Bad timing for the Tigers taking on another physical team after getting knocked around by Ole Miss. They only had three first half points.

Western Kentucky(-2.5) at Louisiana Tech: MISS! It was a great game. I just picked the wrong result.

Clemson(-16.5) at Boston College: MISS! Dabo says no sweat!

Massachusetts at Old Dominion(-6.5): HIT! The Monarchs made a good decision moving this game back. We saw a whole lot of messy games in North Carolina on Saturday. They were sure fun to watch, but they weren’t much fun for the high powered offenses of today’s college game.

SMU at Tulsa(-16.5): MISS! If you like defense, don’t watch a Tulsa game. I’m quite sure they have allowed more touchdowns than they have forced punts.

Boise State(-19.5) at New Mexico: MISS! This was not the start I was looking for….

Cincinnati(-2.5) at Connecticut: MISS! Has UConn finally turned the proverbial corner?

Texas vs. Oklahoma(-11.5): HIT! This line actually closed at -13. I knew it was way too high. Our defense is mostly awful, though Thomas played a great game at cornerback. We didn’t save Charlie Strong’s job, but we helped turn down the heat on his seat a bit.

East Carolina at South Florida(-18.5): HIT! I was close. They kept it within 16, but I’m pretty sure that was encompassed by “or so.”

TCU(-28.5) at Kansas: HIT! Kansas still hasn’t won an FBS game in nearly two years, but they came very close here before running out of gas.

Iowa at Minnesota(EVEN): MISS! Okay Gophers, I’m done with you. No more support from this area. You will have to take your underachievement elsewhere.

Maryland(-2.5) at Penn State: HIT! Look out everyone, Penn State has an offense!

Southern Mississippi(-16.5) at UTSA: HIT! All that support that I once had for Minnesota is going towards the Roadrunners getting a bowl berth. Meep meep!

Auburn(-2.5) at Mississippi State: HIT! This was utter domination by the Auburn defense. If Aubie was in the SEC East, they might win it.

Notre Dame at North Carolina State(-2.5): MISS! If you watched the game, you were likely as surprised by a touchdown as I was. That field was a mess!

Georgia Tech at Pittsburgh(-6.5): MISS!  What happened to the Pitt defense?

Bowling Green at Ohio(-11.5): MISS! Does a six point loss count as “waking up?”

Miami(OH) at Akron(-7.5): MISS!  Cincinnati isn’t that good of a team, and I let that cloud by view of Miami. Yeah, that’s it.

Toledo(-17.5) at Eastern Michigan: HIT! Toledo’s 28 point second half had me sweating this.

Houston(-16.5) at Navy: MISS! Navy picked up their first win against a top ten team since 1984. Judging by our reader’s demographic, that is before half of you were born.

Iowa State at Oklahoma State(-16.5): MISS! The Cyclones are going to pull one of these out at some point. If it is this week, someone is losing their job….

Virginia Tech at North Carolina(-3.5): MISS! That’s what I get for believing in the Tarheel offense.

Indiana at Ohio State(-28.5): HIT! Indiana played a pretty good game, but they were never really in this after the first quarter.

Purdue at Illinois(-10.5): MISS! How exactly does a team play well on the road in a tough place to play, then return home and lose to a bottom feeder?

Texas State at Georgia State(-10.5): MISS! Congratulations to the Panthers on their first win.

Kent State(-1.5) at Buffalo: MISS! I knew better…..

Ball State at Central Michigan(-12.5): MISS! What an uninspiring performance by the Chippewas.

Air Force(-11.5) at Wyoming: HIT! I was wrong when I though the Cowboys wouldn’t win outright. Considering how the afternoon has gone so far, I’m not surprised.

Tennessee at Texas A&M(-6.5): HIT! The Aggies did everything they possibly could to lose this game. Tennessee just wouldn’t take it.

Army at Duke(-5.5): MISS! Where did that come from?

BYU at Michigan State(-5.5): HIT! The Spartans are lost right now.

Vanderbilt at Kentucky(-3.5): MISS! Statistically, Vanderbilt dominated this game. Not when it mattered though.

Colorado at USC(-5.5): HIT! JuJu Smith-Schuster made a lot of enemies for being a good sport. He went down instead of scoring a touchdown and giving Colorado the ball back. That would have also covered the spread for USC.

Hawaii at San Jose State(-3.5): MISS! I knew better than this too….

Northern Illinois at Western Michigan(-17.5): MISS! The Broncos played a sloppy game, and still won by 15. Not like that does me any good.

Marshall(-10.5) at North Texas: HIT! Don’t look now, but the Mean Green are 3-3, also better (percentage wise) than me!

Fresno State at Nevada(-7.5): MISS! ……and burned by Fresno again…..

Alabama(-13.5) at Arkansas: HIT! The Tide won by 19, and it wasn’t as close as the score indicated.

Idaho at Louisiana-Monroe(-5.5): MISS!  Idaho has two road wins already this year. That matches their total from the past five seasons combined. The Vandals have not won more than one road game in a season since 2010, which was also the last time they didn’t have a losing record.

Michigan(-29.5) at Rutgers: HIT! I said Michigan by 42. They won by that plus 36 more…..

Texas Tech at Kansas State(-9.5): HIT! That perfectly executed onside kick saved my hide here.

Syracuse at Wake Forest(-3.5): HIT! The Deacons completely took Amba Etta-Tawo out of this game. They provided everyone with a blueprint on how to blow out Syracuse.

Washington(-9.5) at Oregon: HIT! That kind of overkill is a lot of pent up aggression. 13 years turned into 70 points on the Ducks.

Florida International at UTEP: HIT! Sadly, this was my first five game winning streak of the season.

Florida State at Miami(-2.5): HIT! This was a tough one for the Hurricanes. They dominated the first half of this game.

California(-13.5) at Oregon State: MISS! Nice defense, Cal. Nice defense…..

Arizona at Utah(-9.5): MISS! I was watching this game thinking I had picked Utah. Nope. I outsmarted myself again.

Utah State(-5.5) at Colorado State: HIT! It was Colorado State’s defense that impressed. They shut the Aggies out in the second half.

UNLV at San Diego State(-15.5): HIT! That is why I kept the points low. Inconsistent QB play isn’t done costing the Aztecs this year.

UCLA(-9.5) at Arizona State: HIT! This was a good win for Arizona State, but I don’t think it would have ended this way with a healthy Josh Rosen. He was nowhere near 100%.

Washington State at Stanford(-6.5): HIT! I should have put a lot more on this. I had a feeling this was going to happen.

Charlotte at Florida Atlantic(-13.5): MISS! Not only did FAU not cover this, they also lost the game when the game winning touchdown was called back. Talk about bad luck….

Georgia(-6.5) at South Carolina: HIT! This was easy money.

I just missed out on a .500 week, going 26-28. The sad part is that is my second best week of the season. That puts my season total at 135-170. I improved my percentage, but we have proven that that doesn’t mean much. I am not doing this for moral victories.

Let’s see if I finally gained some points in my betting system. The season totals are in parentheses:

1. 3-4 (23-23) 0
2. 12-11 (53-52) +2
3. 5-10 (34-58) -72
4. 5-1 (19-21) -8
5. 1-2 (6-16) -50

I did much better with my four pointers this week, but I still lost three points. That puts my season total at -128, and my two year total at -5.

The college football season is nearing half over already. I need to get roughly 56% of my picks over the rest of the season just to break even. I’m not going to say it’s impossible, but when I am happy with a 26-28 week, it doesn’t look likely.
