Islanders vs. Rangers live stream: Watch online
Here’s how you can watch Thursday night’s matchup between the New York Islanders and New York Rangers.
The New York Islanders and New York Rangers are both competing to return to the postseason in the 2016-17 NHL season. What position they will be in come April likely depends on how they do against each other. The two archenemies take on each other in the first game of the NHL season for both teams on Thursday, Oct. 13.
Coming off an impressive offseason, the Rangers are led by goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who many believe is one of the best in the world. Captain Ryan McDonagh, Derek Stepan, Rick Nash, Chris Kreider, J.T. Miller, and Mats Zuccarello lead an impressive group of forwards. Newcomers Jimmy Vesey and Mika Zibanejad should help the Rangers offense be even more potent than it was last season.

Meanwhile, the Isles made some improvements of their own. After losing Kyle Okposo to the Buffalo Sabres, Frans Nielsen to the Detroit Red Wings, and Matt Martin to the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Isles countered by signing Andrew Ladd and Jason Chimera. They will have a young roster this season, with Matthew Barzal and Anthony Beauvillier both making the team out of training camp.

This should be a great game between two teams hoping to make the postseason. The battle for New York has become more personal in recent years. With the Isles’ recent move to Brooklyn, both teams are trying to claim New York City as their own. It should be a great rivalry matchup between two Metropolitan Division enemies.
