In dire need of a positive game from their quarterback, the San Francisco 49ers head to Buffalo to take on the hot Bills, who have won three in a row.

With Colin Kaepernick starting against the Bills, Kap must flash some positive signs throwing the ball. I say throwing the ball, but at this point, the Niners could use any big play from their former superstar quarterback. Obviously, it’s well documented what he can do as a runner, and the chances are he won’t even be with the team next year.

But to prove he’s still a capable NFL quarterback, Kaepernick must flash signs of life as a quarterback. Those pick-sixes and dreadful interceptions he was throwing a year ago can’t pop back up. He doesn’t need to thread the needle like Tom Brady, but he does need to be able to make it to at least his second read, even if it’s not there.

Even when the Niners were flying high a few seasons ago, it was well noted throughout the league that Kap was a single read quarterback.

Kaepernick proved last year, without a top five defense and rushing attack, he was inept to lead the team and continue the success they had in previous years. If signs of life are given by Kap against Buffalo, he’s got to be considered the starter moving forward.

I have a feeling the Niners quarterback situation will be on a week to week basis, where head coach Chip Kelly will have to decide who to go with each week.

Buffalo has managed to harass quarterbacks quite often this season. In their last three games, the Bills have averaged four sacks per game which is tied for second in the NFL over that span of games.

Outside linebacker Lorenzo Alexander is second in the NFL in sacks with seven up them already. Weakside linebacker Zach Brown currently leads the league in tackles with 60.
