It won’t be Tony Stark behind the armor when Invincible Iron Man relaunches in November, so it’s best to get to know Riri Williams right now.
Who is Riri Williams? Just a super genius teenager who managed to reverse-engineer a suit of Iron man armor while attending MIT at age 15. No big deal.
She’s shown enough during her relatively short time in the Marvel Universe for Tony Stark to feel like the Iron Man legacy is in good hands, as she’ll take over as the star of Invincible Iron Man #1 next month. Williams will take the code name Ironheart as she puts her own stamp on the familiar red and gold armor.
Here’s what Marvel has to say about the new #1 issue:
"Superstar writer Brian Michael Bendis joins rising star artist Stefano Caselli to chronicle the ongoing adventures of Marvel’s newest hero, Riri Williams! Forged on the violent streets of Chicago, this 15-year old MIT student is going it alone and ready to show the Marvel Universe what she can do as Ironheart! Clad in her very own homemade armor, is she ready for all the problems that come with stepping into Iron Man’s jet boots? Where’s a genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist when you need one?"
That’s an excellent question: Where is Tony Stark? With Victor Von Doom (yes, that Doom!) also helping to fill the void in Infamous Iron Man, the original Armored Avenger will be absent. Methinks you’ll have to read both series to find out exactly why.
As for Williams, we’ve got three pages of her first issue as the headliner for you to preview courtesy of Marvel:
