Mississippi State has gotten off to a rough start to the 2016 season and Dan Mullen’s Bulldogs are looking for a turnaround. Sitting at just 2-3 with losses to South Alabama, LSU and Auburn, this team has fallen off a bit from the Dak Prescott days.
Sophomore quarterback Nick Fitzgerald took over after the first game and has looked decent in place of Damian Williams who started the opener. He has passed for 784 yards and seven touchdowns with just two interceptions. He also leads the team with 390 rushing yards.
Fred Ross and Donald Gray are the top targets on the team, and there really isn’t anyone else worth mentioning in the receiving corps. They have combined for 47 receptions for 575 yards and six touchdowns while no other receiver have over 100 yards.
The BYU Cougars, on the other hand, may have gotten the confidence boost they needed in Week 6 with a road win over Michigan State. Sure, the Spartans are reeling right now, but BYU was still just 2-3 heading into the game and it is now one step closer to bowl eligibility.
Taysom Hill is back for yet another season and the 26-year-old quarterback has been doing a decent job under center. The real star of the offense has been running back Jamaal Williams who has accounted for 866 yards and 10 touchdowns on 6.2 yards per touch.
The Cougars’ mediocre pass defense luckily isn’t going to be overly tested by the Bulldogs quiet aerial attack this week.
