Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak returning to team Monday
The Denver Broncos will have head coach Gary Kubiak back on the sidelines on Monday as they prepare for a Week 7 matchup with the Houston Texans.
Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak will rejoin the team on Monday after missing last Thursday’s loss to the San Diego Chargers, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Kubiak developed symptoms of a complex migraine condition following Denver’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons back in Week 5. The 55-year-old spent the night in a Denver-area hospital before being released on Monday, and he was unable to coach the Broncos on Thursday Night Football in San Diego. Special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis served as the interim head coach for the week Kubiak was out.
As anyone who suffered from migraines knows, they can be absolutely debilitating for any kind of work, let alone coaching an NFL team. Fortunately, Kubiak will be able to return to the Denver sideline this week with an extra day to prepare for the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football.
This isn’t the first health-related scare for Kubiak. While coaching the Texans back in November 2013, Kubiak collapsed at halftime of a game against the Indianapolis Colts and was taken to the hospital with what was eventually described as a mini-stroke.
The Broncos need Kubiak, one of the best offensive play-callers in the NFL, back at full capacity as soon as possible after suffering two straight losses. Denver was limited to just 13 points and 304 total yards against the Chargers, with quarterback Trevor Siemian averaging a meager 4.6 yards per pass attempt.
