Islanders vs. Capitals live stream: Watch online
Here’s how you can watch the Washington Capitals home opener against the New York Islanders online.
Both the Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders are seeking their first win of the season after losses on Thursday. While the Caps lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 in a shootout, the Islanders lost 5-3 to the New York Rangers. On Saturday, the two teams will face each other at the Verizon Center in Washington DC as each team looks to get their first win of the 2016-17 NHL season
The Caps are led by their captain Alex Ovechkin. Ovechkin is the four-time defending Maurice Richard Trophy winner as the league’s leading goal scorer. Also leading the way are centers Nicklas Backstrom and Evgeny Kuznetsov, who give the Caps a deadly duo at center. Their defense is led by John Carlson, Matt Niskanen, Dmitry Orlov, and Vezina Trophy winning goaltender Braden Holtby. Washington features a strong group of complementary forwards led by Andre Burakovsky, Justin Williams, T.J. Oshie, and Marcus Johansson.
On the other side of the ice, the Islanders are a very different team than last season. This will be former Caps forward Jason Chimera’s first regular season return to the Verizon Center since signing with the Islanders during the offseason. The Islanders are led by captain John Tavares and 2010 Stanley Cup champion Andrew Ladd. As far as defense, they are led by Travis Hamonic, Nick Leddy, Johnny Boychuk, and the goaltending tandem of Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Greiss.
