The Purdue Boilermakers have parted ways with head coach Darrell Hazell. Here are five reasons that Purdue should get Les Miles to be its next head coach.
The Purdue Boilermakers have brought an end to the Darrell Hazell era in West Lafayette after their blowout loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes in Week 7. Purdue has been arguably the worst Power 5 school on the gridiron for the last decade. Hazell only won nine games in three plus seasons on the job.
So what is Purdue University to do? How are the Boilermakers going to rebuild their doormat of a football program. There is one guy that is available on the open market that might have been too good for Purdue a year ago, but now makes a ton of sense.
Here are five reasons that Purdue should be aggressive and hire Les Miles as the football team’s next head coach in 2017.
5. Mike Bobinski wants to win at Purdue
The supposed reason that Purdue is getting into the mix for the Miles coaching sweepstakes is that the University has a new athletic director. Mike Bobinski had previously been at Georgia Tech. After years of frustration dealing with Georgia Tech’s academic rigor, he’s found a good entry point at a potentially good job in Purdue.
At Purdue, Bobinski is in a public university that wants to emphasize athletics. The Boilermakers have a strong basketball program in the Big Ten, but have floundered at college football for much of the last decade and a half.
Yes, Bobinski kind of rode Dan Radakovich’s coattails at Georgia Tech, but did oversee a 2014 team that won the ACC Coastal and the Orange Bowl over Mississippi State. Purdue is somewhat of a prove-it opportunity for Bobinski and he’s not going to fail in West Lafayette.
By hiring Miles, Bobinski will have an elite head coach to hitch his wagon to. Miles might be 62 years old, but he is an ideal fit for the Boilermakers in getting their doormat of a Power 5 program back on the ground. Bobinski and Purdue want to win. So does Miles. This could be a great match if they do decide to partner in 2017.
